After all you've been through; the understanding of someone and how their mind works, it's difficult to stop caring. Even after all they've put you through, you still want them to be happy... even if it's not with you. Though they're annoying at times, constantly nagging you with 'advice' which you may or may not take, perhaps there's still a hint of care instilled in their intentions. :) That being said, hearing you sad still makes me sympathetic. I'm in no place to offer you too much help, but all I know is that
a friend in need, is a friend indeed. And that's never going to change ^_^
Therefore, the difference between now and then, is that there really is no difference. That's why I'm so glad that I can keep track of my ex-relationships on one hand, in fact ... two fingers :) Why? Because I like it simple. I don't just give away my concern. So I do hope your problem dissolves to none.
